Incident Description:
On April 8, 2020, de Gelderlander reported a silo explosion at an animal feed manufacturer in Voorthuizen in the Netherlands.
The fire brigade was called in at around 11:50 a.m. It was accompanied by several ambulances and the area surrounding the facility was cordoned off.
The sprinkler system had gone off, so the brigade initially assumed that a fire had accompanied the explosion. This turned out to not be the case. After an hour, firefighters were able to wind down operations and turn the facility back over to the company.
The force of the explosion blew out a panel on the silo. No injuries were reported. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation
